What you will see
The whole cure, start to cask
We do not do slide decks. You walk the sheds, you handle the fruit, and you taste the difference between a six-month cask and an eighteen-month one. Most decisions get made in the tasting room.
- The curing house — six days of cedar smoke, and the racks being turned by hand, which is the bit everyone comes to see.
- The cooper’s bench — how a cask is headed, pitched and marked, and why the mark settles every dispute.
- A side-by-side tasting — fresh, six months, twelve months, eighteen months. Plus the grog, if the hour is decent.
- Your own numbers — bring a route and a crew size and we will cost it against what you currently pay, on the spot.

Anya will write within one working day with two or three times that suit the tide. If you named a port other than Port Royal we will come to you instead.
Before you come
Common questions
How long does it take?
Forty minutes for the walkthrough and tasting. Add another twenty if
you want your route costed while you are there, which we recommend — it is far easier with
the quartermaster in the room.
Can you come to our port instead?
Yes, anywhere in the 43. We bring a tasting case and the numbers,
though obviously not the curing sheds. Fleets of four hulls and up usually prefer this;
single-hull traders usually prefer the yard, because of the smell.
Do we need to commit to anything?
No. Roughly a third of visitors do not buy, and a fair number of
those come back two seasons later. We would rather you saw the cure and decided against it
than signed on a description.
